Davit Usupashvili : The efforts of “taming” the free media and opposition business circles continues in Georgia

The efforts of “taming” the free media and opposition business circles is still underway in Georgia, Davit Usupashvili, the leader of the Movement for Building, said.

 

According to him, the latest example is the charges brought by Prosecutor's Office against businessman Avtandil Tsereteli.

 

Davit Usupashvili believes this fact is directly linked with “TV Pirveli” and this is a crackdown on those businessmen who oppose this government.

 

“I am convinced that the next assessment, analysis, speculation about what and why the government is doing is completely inadequate and ineffective. It will be effective to take concrete actions to protect free media and to enforce those business circles, who are not obedient to the government. In this regard, I think the most proper step would be to set up a TV Pirveli Survival Fund, which will say that if the TV company faces a problem of operating because of the government’s pressure on its owners, partners, financiers, citizens will take the responsibility and commitment to maintain the freedom of speech and expression in Georgia,” Davit Usupashvili said.
