According to Gela Nikolaishvili, the lawyer of the Special Penitentiary Department, the third president of Georgia does not have dementia, he just cannot accept imprisonment.

As he told reporters, he doubts the diagnosis of dementia.

"The questioning of the expert today also proved that there are a number of inconsistencies and inaccuracies between his report and testimony. It turned out and today the expert confirmed that convulsions were recorded in the medical history only on the basis of what Saakashvili said to doctors. There is not a single person who would personally see this fact. He clearly demonstrated his ignorance of what diseases Saakashvili was suffering from before his arrest. The fact that he was taking psychotropic substances and had two bottles of alcohol on the same day...

As for dementia, we question the diagnosis of dementia, because a person with dementia must have signs that characterize this disease. He must have difficulty even speaking his native language and forget words. He cannot have a sound judgment on the recent events of yesterday and the day before yesterday. Dementia means mental retardation. He has trouble accepting the situation in which he is in, i.e. imprisonment. He was really stressed by this imprisonment. Naturally, this stress can and has caused various diseases, but we do not agree with what the defense says, as if it is dementia and the patient is on the verge of death, and that it is dangerous for his life," said Gela Nikoleishvili.
