Givi Mikanadze: Browder's statement is a component of the lobbying campaign

09.01.23 17:00

Browder's statement is a component of the lobbying campaign - it is interesting with what financial means the Saakashvili family hires lobbying companies, it cannot be about a few thousand dollars, it must be about large amount of money, Givi Mikanadze, a member of the parliamentary majority, said while commenting on the statement of the author of the Magnitsky List.

According to him, the lobbying campaign is based on absurdity and lies. Mikanadze pointed out that this campaign is expanding and they are trying to damage the country's reputation.

"We have been witnessing for several months now that Saakashvili's family and a small team related to him are trying to build an artificial, baseless campaign, not only locally, but internationally, which is not based on any facts. They allege that illegality is taking place in relation to Saakashvili, which is a lie. We know that the family has hired an American lobbying company, and every day, statements and articles are published in the press of different countries around the world. This too (Browder's statement) is a component of this lobbying direction, especially since this person has no reason to make such loud and accusing statements that Mikheil Saakashvili is being tortured. Everyone knows that Mikheil Saakashvili is the only person who harms his own health and does not allow the medical staff to fully take care of his health. Talking about any lists is speculative, especially regarding the person who established a serious crime system during his rule," Mikanadze said.

For information, the CEO of the Heritage Foundation, William Browder, responded to the former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, who asked him to help the local Georgian groups in drawing up a new Magnitsky list without waiting for a lethal outcome.

"Mikheil, please have your team document who is withholding medical treatment, who is responsible for the poisoning, who is responsible for the torture and I will do whatever I can to bring this to the attention of Western governments for Magnitsky sanctions," Bill Browder wrote to Mikheil Saakashvili.
