The legislative amendments, on the basis of which the investigative scope of the Special Investigation Service increases, were adopted by the Parliament in the third reading.

The planned changes in the laws "On Special Investigation Service" and "On Personal Data Protection" along with the following projects were approved by 80 votes to one.

In the event that the European Court of Human Rights establishes a violation of any of the rights provided for by the Convention, the Special Investigation Service will conduct the investigation on the mentioned issues instead of the Prosecutor's Office.

Another change, which will affect the Special Investigation Service, is the expansion of the subordination regarding specific articles, if these articles refer to abuse of authority, and if these articles are revealed within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Special Investigation Service.

Within the framework of the same changes, the guarantees of social protection of employees of the Personal Data Protection Service are increasing. The project envisages the possibility of awarding a special title to all employees, except for those employed under an employment contract.

Changes were also made in the regulations - in particular, upon the request of the head of the Special Investigation Service and the head of the Personal Data Protection Service, the heads of the said service shall submit to the parliamentary committee information on the legislative deficiencies identified in the process of the services' activity and opinions on the measures to be taken to eliminate the said deficiencies, as well as opinions on the measures to be taken to increase the efficiency of the services' activity.
