According to the Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger, the "visit" of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to the occupied regions of Georgia is against international norms. The Georgian Service of Voice of America has disseminated the mentioned information.
Kinzinger says that there is nothing surprising from the current leader of Belarus, but it is important that the international community sends clear messages regarding the occupied territories of Georgia.
"True, it is not surprising that the despot from Belarus does everything as he is dictated from Moscow, however, the international community should make it very clear that Tskhinvali and Abkhazia were and will always be the territory of Georgia," the Congressman said.
The press release about the visit of the President of Belarus to occupied Abkhazia was posted on the official website of the President late at night on September 28. The press release says that Lukashenko visited "the northeastern coast of the Black Sea".
Adam Kinzinger believes that Lukashenko's "visit" to Abkhazia is connected with the Kremlin's failures in Ukraine. Amidst the aggravated danger in the region, Georgia should act especially carefully.
"Now that Putin's campaign in Ukraine is weakening, Georgians should be wary of any potential move by the Kremlin. Georgia is very well aware of all the threats the Kremlin poses to its sovereignty," Kinzinger said.
