According to Giga Bokeria, Chairman of European Georgia, the Government demonstrates an arrogant attitude towards everything, and even under the current law, Ivanishvili's regime has complete control over the Central Election Commission.
According to him, nothing actually changes by changing laws, the country's problem is not in the procedure, but in the way Bidzina Ivanishvili and his team control all institutions.
"The problems related to elections should mainly be discussed in the context of the State Security Service, other power structures, intimidation, bribery and political persecution. Everyone who focuses on the chairman of the Central Election Commission is wrong. Ivanishvili’s faction in the Parliament is ready to simplify this rule in order to demonstrate their power, to demonstrate that they can do whatever they want”, said Bokeria.
According to him, as long as Bidzina Ivanishvili is in power, “we will not be able to achieve our historical task of returning to the free world, joining NATO and the European Union, and democratic transformations within the country, this is the main thing, the rest are details".
As Bokeria said in the same context, the recommendation of the European Commission does not only imply the development of the law, but also the democratic standards of the government.
According to him, the law is an important part only when the ruling team has the political will for the democratic development of the country.
For information, the ruling party does not rule out changes in the procedure for electing the CEC chairman and the revision of the electoral legislation in this direction. As Irakli Kadagishvili, Chairman of the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, told journalists yesterday regarding the rule of electing the CEC chairman of by 2/3 of votes, "some laws are vicious".
