As President, I am not only ready, but I also believe that I must fulfill the task of overseeing what our next steps will be. So you can count on me and the Georgian people. I want to believe that we can hope that the Government will take all the necessary steps, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said in her address to the European Council.
According to the President, the Georgian people also showed their readiness for European integration at the rally held two days ago.
"I want to convey on behalf of the Georgian people that what happened today may be a disappointment - we are not in the Trio, but I think we are analyzing the fact that Georgia has been waiting for what happened today for many years, since independence - to join the European family and receive European perspective”, said the President.
According to her, everyone, including the Government, should understand that the chance given to the country is also a challenge.
"It is a challenge to be able to take seriously the path of reforms in the next six months”, she said.
“I think the population of Georgia showed two days ago (on the street) that they are ready. I, as President, am not only ready, but I also believe that I must fulfill the task of overseeing what our next steps will be. So you can count on me, you can count on the Georgian people, and I want to believe that we can count on the Government that it will take all the necessary steps. It is a responsibility to the Georgian people, to our history, to our children, so I am sure we will take this challenge very seriously and work on it.
We know that there will be quite intensive work, but I also know that I can count on your support, Mr. President, and those who are sitting around the table, because you are giving us a chance," Zurabishvili said.
