The occupation began much earlier and it was the beginning of the 90's. 2008 was a continuation of this [process], - Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze said at Mukhatgverdi Brothers’ Cemetery, where he laid a wreath on the memorial of the fallen heroes.
Mamuka Bakhtadze underlined that the occupation of the Georgian territories stared much earlier than August 2008.
“The occupation began much earlier and it was the beginning of the 90's. 2008 was a continuation of this [process]. This is, of course, not making the proper emphasis was not made on this topic was a huge mistake, including by the then political leadership.
The occupier country had been preparing for a very long time and it was unfortunately very visible. As for speculating on this topic, those, who are speculating about it, damage the national interests of our country, ”Mamuka Bakhtadze said.
At the same time, PM Bakhtadze noted that peace and development is indispensable in terms of the fight against the occupation.
"I would like to address our population and tell them that there is no alternative to peace and development in the fight against occupation. This is the path that will surely lead us to our cherished goal and will ensure a complete de-occupation of Georgia, ”Mamuka Bakhtadze said.
