"As a Member of the Georgian Parliament, I am personally sending a request to the Emory University Clinic in the United States to express their readiness to conduct a complex medical examination of Mikheil Saakashvili's condition," opposition MP Tamar Kordzaia said at the briefing in Parliament.
According to her, the letter regarding the appointment of the examination will be officially sent to the Emory Clinic today.
"Since the day of Mikheil Saakashvili's arrest, there have been numerous violations of his rights. The Government does not provide his lawyers with information about his health, which is illegal. The lawyers petition in all court hearings for an appointment for an expert examination, but the court artificially delays the process. You know that last week I asked the Minister of Justice to ask the Emory Clinic to conduct complex medical examination, if they think that Saakashvili has bribed all the doctors in Georgia. In this regard, I received a completely outrageous answer. Rati Bregadze got interested in my medical education. I am answering him that I have the same education that he has. As a lawyer, I appeal to him that Mikheil Saakashvili, as a party to the trial, has the right to request an expert examination and the court must satisfy this request. As the trial is delaying this process and the Minister of Justice is doing nothing to make it happen, I, as a Member of the Georgian Parliament, am personally sending a request to the Emory University Clinic to express their readiness to conduct a complex medical examination of Mikheil Saakashvili," said Tamar Kordzaia.
