Funding for religious organizations to increase by 1 million GEL

08.04.22 11:30

At the decision of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, funding for religious organizations has increased.

In order to partially compensate for the material and moral damage caused to religious associations during the Soviet totalitarian regime, GEL 1 million was added to the existing GEL 4.5 million by 2022.

Zaza Vashakmadze, Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Affairs, introduced the PM’s decision to the leaders of religious organizations during the meeting held at the Government Administration.

The Government of Georgia has been guided by several important issues in increasing funding for religious organizations, including the number of parishioners of religious organizations, clergy, and religious buildings, and the decision was made in consultation with the Religious Agency and religious associations.

The amount of 1 million GEL will be allocated from the Reserve Fund of the Government of Georgia and will be distributed among religious organizations by the State Agency for Religious Affairs.
