13.01.22 10:50

The court's guilty verdict against MP Badri Japaridze may become grounds for the termination of his parliamentary mandate.

The issue will be discussed by the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules.

According to the Constitution of Georgia and the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, the term of office of a Member of Parliament is terminated if he / she is found guilty by a court judgment that has entered into force. In such a case, the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules shall, within 15 days of the entry into force of the court decision, request the judgment and prepare an appropriate report immediately.

"When a court issues a guilty verdict against a member of parliament, the issue of termination of authority arises. The law says so. We will, of course, discuss the issue and present the conclusion to the plenary session of the Parliament. After that, the decision is the prerogative of the parliament," Irakli Kadagishvili, chairman of the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, told Interpressnews.
