According to the Deputy Minister of Health, Tamar Gabunia, as of today, 24 cases of "Omicron" have been registered in Georgia.

 

As she said after the meeting of the Coordinating Council, the strain of "Omicron" is mainly characterized by mild or moderate course, although the need for hospitalization is not ruled out.

 

"There is more data on its rapid spread, so here we are talking about the fact that it can very quickly reach large populations, which creates the main risk associated with this strain. The incubation period is shortened to 3 days. Infection can be transmitted can occur very quickly and show signs of disease, it is more prevalent in the age group of 20 to 45 years and can spread to children. Mild or moderate cases are predominant so far, although the need for hospitalization is not ruled out here, and of course, an undesirable result may arise. We have confirmed 24 cases all of which are of light course. The first two cases that were announced on Monday, their contacts were studied and everyone was confirmed, most of them were vaccinated," Tamar Gabunia said, adding that a very rapid increase in confirmed cases is expected in the second half of January, after January 15.

 

For his part, the head of the National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze, noted that all cases of Omicron in Georgia are outpatient and at the moment, 53 contacts of confirmed cases are being studied.
