Internet was made available in Georgian village of Roshka, Khevsureti region yesterday as part of a large-scale government internetization programme.
"The high-quality internet Roskha is provided with will significantly increase tourist potential,” Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava said when visiting the village yesterday.
Minister Turnava said the locals are provided with free trainings on how to place information on their guesthouses on international tourist websites.
The project, which plans to provide Pshav-Khevsureti and Gudamakari with Wi-Fi internet was launched in March 2019 by the Ministry of Economy, Internet Society (ISOC) and Small and Medium Telecom Operators Association of Georgia.
The ravines of Pshavi, Ukana Pshavi, Piraketa (southern) Khevsureti, Arkhoti, Pirikita (northen) Khevsureti, Ardoti and Gudamakari will be covered by the project.
The project will be conducted in two stages: Piraketa Khevsureti and Arkhoti ravines will be initially covered which will be followed by Pirikita Khevsureti, Ardoti, Ukana Pshavi and Gudamakari ravines.
A total of 76 villages will be covered with internet after the project is completed.
76 villages and four schools will be provided with internet during the project. A fixed IP telephone line will also be installed for 50 subscribers in the region.
