The epidemic situation in the country remains tense - the harshest indicator is getting harsher. More than 80 deaths have been reported for several days now, - said Amiran Gamkrelidze, director of the National Center for Disease Control.

As Amiran Gamkrelidze explains, only immunization will stop a difficult epidemic situation.

"The epidemic situation in the country remains tense. Several indicators have a promising trend. The so-called reproduction index decreased. There is a decrease of 700-800 units compared to the previous two Tuesdays, but today’s case is quite a lot. For several days now, the death toll has risen to more than 80. The epidemic situation is difficult in the country. Only a vaccine will stop it.

Vaccination dynamics have improved slightly over the last week. Today it was in the range of 8,200, what is promising is that for 60% of them it was the first dose. The share of vaccines in the age group above 60 is also increasing. More than 12 thousand people over the age of 60 have been vaccinated in the last 1 week.

These incentive measures made a little effect and this dynamic emerged. However, one week is not enough for this. I hope that the vaccination rate for the elderly will increase", - said Gamkrelidze.

According to him, the rate of wearing a facemask is 37%, which is "very bad." As Amiran Gamkrelidze explains, the low rate of wearing a facemask and large gatherings are a "booster" of the high mark of epidemic figures.
