The paramount concern is the health and safety of Mr Saakashvili as he is in detention. It is the responsibility of the authorities to make sure these are fully preserved, - French Ambassador to Georgia Diego Colas told Interpressnews in connection with the events developed around jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.

 

As French Ambassador noted, the authorities worry about the integrity of prison system, while friends and fans of Saakashvili worry about his dignity, and both of them are legitimate concerns.

 

"The paramount concern is the health and safety of Mr Saakashvili as he is in detention. It is the responsibility of the authorities to make sure these are fully preserved. I can hear many other concerns being expressed and they are legitimate too. Authorities worry about the integrity of the prison system. This is legitimate. Friends and fans of Mr Saakashvili worry about his dignity. This is a legitimate concern for all prisoners, and particularly so for a former President of the country.

 

As all these concerns are being expressed, it falls on the authorities to constantly review all available options to identify the best possible one. I recommend that they consult widely, keep all options under constant study, be as creative as possible in order to meet all these concerns", - stated the Ambassador.
