Anri Okhanashvili: The High Council of Justice has full legitimacy to make relevant decisions within its authority - it is not within my competence

The High Council of Justice has full legitimacy to make relevant decisions within its authority - it is not within my competence, - said Anri Okhanashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, when asked about the appointment of two new members of the High Council of Justice.

According to Okhanashvili, "the time when the council was saturated with politics is over." He alleges that the High Council of Justice was depoliticized under the Georgian Dream government.

"The calls and opinions of our strategic partners are, of course, important. We carefully listen to them and nothing will change in our relationship.

A working group has been set up under my leadership in connection with the judiciary, where representatives of all opposition parties are represented. I offered everyone to come up with a specific idea. The opposition believes that there is no court in Georgia today, but we say that we have carried out reforms that have strengthened the institution of an independent judge, the judiciary is independent and moving forward. To put an end to these conversations, we made a specific offer. However, there is no response. It is difficult and unimaginable to consult with the opposition, some of which are boycotting, some are announcing rallies, but we are ready for consultations!" said Anri Okhanashvili.
