Nino Tsilosani, a member of the Gender Council from the parliamentary majority, said that the Gender Council discussed the incident between Tina Bokuchava and Shalva Papuashvili and ruled that there was no gender-based violence against a woman.
"Each and every individual case needs more in-depth consideration and it cannot be considered on the basis of gender alone. It was important for us to determine whether each of these cases was discriminatory on the basis of gender, specifically against women. The council discussed this issue, unlike other councils, and we found that there was no deliberate violence against a woman. However, in any case, I would like any member of parliament, be it my colleagues from the ruling team, or the opposition who are particularly aggressive, to respect the importance of developing our society and not to set an example from the parliament that they do not want to be copied by the public," Tsilosani.
When asked to clarify which case the council considered, Tsilosani said that they discussed the incident related to Tina Bokuchava.
According to her, the Gender Council had no obligation under regulations to discuss that issue, however, since the party involved in the incident was a woman, it considered it expedient to discuss the case.
The incident took place in the sitting hall of the parliament when the deputies were to hear about the Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri. The protest by the opposition was followed by a verbal confrontation between the majority and members of the opposition. One of the leaders of the National Movement Tina Bokuchava tried to approach the seat for the speaker, but the majority MP Shalva Papuashvili pulled her out of the seat. This was followed by a verbal dispute between Bokuchava and Papuashvili. Bokuchava requested that the Ethics Council discuss the issue, however, the Ethics Council did not make any decision in this regard.
