Archbishop Andria Jagmaidze: The statements made by certain bishops is not the position of the Patriarchate

The statements made by certain bishops is not the position of the Patriarchate, - the head of the public relations department of the Patriarchate, Archbishop Andria Jagmaidze told reporters when commenting on the decision of the high-ranking clergymen to sign a petition for the release of the third president.

At the same time, as Jagmaidze noted, the call for reconciliation is a Christian idea and the Church always talks about it.

"The Church has always said to forgive each other, to love each other.

Reconciliation is a Christian idea, but we have not seen Christian ideas fully implemented in a state. This is not the first time we are saying this, we has always said so. The Church always says to forgive one another, but this does not mean that the full fulfillment of the Christian ideas is within the parameters and categories of the functioning of a state. If that were so, we would have lived happily," Jagmaidze said.

As for the metropolitans’ support for the release of Mikheil Saakashvili, according to Jagmaidze, it looks always wrong when a Christian idea is politicized.

"The statements made by certain bishops is not the position of the Patriarchate. Have not you always demanded that the Patriarchate not be involved in political processes?! It looks always wrong when a Christian idea is politicized and it always becomes another cause of controversy," Jagmaidze said.
