Austrian prosecutors have launched an investigation into Sebastian Kurz

The Austrian prosecutor's office has launched an investigation against Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, 9 individuals and 3 organizations.


According to media reports, the case concerns allegations that government money was used in a corrupt deal to publish the desired information by a tabloid newspaper. In particular, according to the allegations, from 2016 to 2018, "the resources of the Ministry of Finance were used to fund a partially manipulated poll that served the political interests of the party."

 

This coincides with the period when Sebastian Kurz became the leader of the Austrian People's Party, the party won the election and Kurz became the Chancellor of Austria.

 

The prosecutor's office said that raids were carried out at several locations, including two ministries, as part of the investigation.

 

Finance Minister Gernot Blummel confirmed that a search had also been carried out at his ministry. According to Austrian media, a search was also carried out in the Chancellor's office.
